In 1983 the Founder Secretary of Schola Regia Lodge, No 9105, asked W Bro Peter Sproule, at that time Senior Lay Clerk at Peterborough Cathedral, to form a choir to sing at the consecration of that lodge, which took place in January, 1984.  Following the success of this venture,  W Bro Sproule was encouraged to establish a permanent choir, which became known as the Peterborough Masonic Male Voice Choir and gave its first performance at the consecration of Thomas Deacon Lodge, No 9126, in October of the same year.  The Choir flourished, and in 1986 the then Provincial Grand Master, R W Bro R S E Sandbach, renamed it the Provincial Masonic Male Voice Choir of Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire.  Over the years the Choir continued to flourish and gave 274 performances.
Among the Choir’s activities was providing musical illustrations for lectures on Music in Masonry, public concerts, and  Cathedral and Church Services.
To the Choir’s great sorrow Peter Sproule died suddenly in June, 1998.  Peter was a veritable ‘one man band’, and the Choir members’ first concern was whether it could survive in the face of this loss.  Due to a redoubling of the members’ efforts it not only survived, but flourished. Unfortunately the older members have died and the few who came forward to replace them were eventually unable to keep up the Choir’s great tradition, and it finished in 2009.
