Extract from Sunday, 2nd March, 1980:

George bent down to tie his boot lace, and had his face licked by a cow-dung flavoured tongue. "Leave off, Harris!" he cried, but in fact it was Vicci.

At Elton Bridge George announced that he would run back to the car, and requested the keys. Harris was very doubtful about our ability to reach the car by noon. I tried to get him to bet all the beer George and I could drink, but he refused.

We stormed up the lane, Vicci walking well to heel without a lead. We saw a Mad March Hare running around the field. We arrived back at the car at 11:50 (anti meridian) - Harris may comment as he pleases.

Harris will comment! The thought of buying all that beer spurred him to stimulate Geordie Bill to herculean efforts thus completing the final mile in twenty minutes. To his horror George had no money!

Extract from Sunday, 9th March, 1980: ~ Founder's Day ~

Harris was away, and George arranged a very relaxed ramble* with his new pooch, Minnie, and persuaded our venerable founder, J, to join us.

I should explain that Minnie is an intermediate stage in George's domestic canine accession ~ all will ultimately be revealed. She is a very miniature, but very game Daschund. J was accompanied by Montmorency, his beagle, who was not in the best of health, but enjoyed himself to the full.

We ambled* up to Deeping Pits, Vicci (of course) behaving in a very boisterous manner.

Extract from Sunday, 16th March, 1980:

George says that the Financial Times had an article on his company's maximising its foreign assets. This is nothing to do with high finance, but with his acquisition of a Weimaraner called Max.

Harris has a pair of knee britches. "How much were they?" asked George.
"Five and eleven," I replied.
"Was that the price or the size?"
"Inside leg measurements," I said. "It is a well-known fact that Little Harris has one short leg and one shorter one!"

We retired to the Dugout (The Bull at Deeping) where the ceiling beams have been raised to allow for Harris standing upright.
